Just returned from a brilliant tailor made trip to Colombia thanks to Colombia Travel Operator. They helped us organise a private tour which met all of our needs and interests. They consulted with us to identify the places we should visit (Colombia is a vast and varied country, with many places to see), helped work out how many days to spend in each and find suitable accommodation. Their communication was the best we have ever had from a travel agent or tour company: rapid, accurate and very helpful.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Medellín
Upon your arrival to Medellín, our staff will collect you at the airport and help you get settled in. We’ll give you the day to rest up from your flight before starting our adventure tomorrow!
Day 2: Medellín
Breakfast & lunch included | Botero Plaza | walking tour downtown
A hotel breakfast will prepare us for our full day out on the town. Starting at 9AM, we’ll begin our tour of Medellín. Visiting the Antioquia Museum, Botero Plaza, and…
…so much more will introduce you to the city and give you a good sense for its history. We’ll also enjoy a walking tour in downtown Medellín, where we can get up close and personal with the intriguing features of this popular sector. In the afternoon, we’ll head to the Medellín Coffee Laboratory where we will take a tour of the facilities and even partake in a coffee tasting.
Day 3: Medellín to Jericó
Breakfast & lunch included | Jericó | old fashioned coffee roaster
We’ve gotten our first taste of the Colombian java, so it’s time to head out to see where it comes from. Next stop: Jericó. This quaint, coffee-centric town is about 3 hours from the hustle and bustle of Medellín. After lunch, we’ll walk around the village to see the main park, an old fashioned coffee roaster, and the cable car system used here in Jericó.
Day 4: Jericó to Pereira & Hacienda San José (Cocora Valley)
Breakfast & dinner included | coffee plantation | Santa Rosa hot springs
We’re already halfway through our coffee adventure, and we find ourselves needing a bit more caffeine. Well, we’re in luck!…
…A visit to another coffee farm and production center is just what the doctor ordered. After another cup or two of joe, we’ll head to Pereira, about 4 hours south of Jericó. Here, we’ll have lunch (not included) and relax at the Santa Rosa hot springs. To finish off the day, we’ll enjoy dinner at the Hacienda San José, our accommodation for the next few days.
Day 5: Pereira & Hacienda San José (Cocora Valley)
Breakfast, lunch, & dinner included | plant wax palm | coffee plantation
Cocora Valley is the next stop on our itinerary. Here, we’ll hike for just about 2 hours through a forest of Quindio wax palm trees, the national tree of Colombia. A lunch at…
…one of our favorite restaurants will give you the energy to plant your very own palm tree. Day 5 wouldn’t be complete without a cup of coffee, so we hop on over to a traditional coffee farm, where we learn not only about the production, but also why Colombian coffee is king. The colorful streets of Salento invite us for an afternoon stroll before getting back into the car to head back to the hacienda for dinner.
Day 6: Pereira to Filandia
Breakfast, lunch, & dinner included | make your own basket | viewpoint El Tambo de Cruces
Our last full day on this adventure brings us to Filandia, the hidden gem of Colombia’s coffee region. We’ll begin by…
exploring a nature reserve that features a sub-Andean forest before heading into the village of Filandia for lunch. A local historian will lead us through the town and relay the stories that Filandia has for us. In the afternoon, we’ll meet an authentic basket craftsman who will explain to us what he does and how he does it so that we can try our hand at making our own baskets. After an informative day, we’ll finish it off with a relaxing cup of coffee up at the viewpoint El Tambo de Cruces, where we can reflect on the trip and share our favorite parts. Once we’ve had our fill, it’s time to head back to the hacienda for dinner.
Day 7: Transfer to Pereira airport
Breakfast included
We’ll wave our goodbyes to Colombia’s coffee region and drop you off at the Pereira airport so that you can get onto your next adventure.

We are a group of 4 from Toronto & Hong Kong taking a 7 days trip around Colombia in November 2018. We joined an amazing company called Colombia Travel Operator. The trip was tailor-made to us which covered places like Bogotá, Coffee Area, Medellin, Cartagena and Mompox. Kelly Botero, the charming beautiful young lady who we have corresponded since day 1 and till the end of the trip has been fascinating.
